Happy Valentine's Day!

Our day began with morning choice followed by word study and some kiddos are still really struggling with word study. It is more than just spelling. We are trying to find patterns in our words-which is pretty cool! However, some are just wanting me to tell them the pattern and I'm not so after another 25 minutes today, some still haven't figured or even tried to figure it out so we'll keep working. Does your kiddo know their pattern? After Art, they had a great meeting with Mrs. Hider where they shared what each person likes about another and played a game I've never tried that I really liked-Pica, Ferme, Nada. Then, in Love That Dog, they found that the more Jack tries poetry and understands it better, the more he begins to enjoy it. In Reader's Workshop, I introduced them to March Book Madness! It is sooo cool~you'll have to ask them about it. We continued our research in Writer's Workshop, which again, is frustrating them because they hate that they actually have to search for the information. After a very dramatic lunch and recess (I guess a couple of boys bought specific valentines for some girls and gave them to the girls which caught them off guard and caused them to react below the line, there were some very hurt feelings.) and quiet time, we learned about perimeter, area and even surface area and volume before practicing how to find area and perimeter. Then, was the fun part~we found the perimeter and area and some even found the surface area and volume of their boxes. Next, we decorated our boxes and passed out valentines. Thank you all so much for all of the treats and kind words! I even got a fluffy purple unicorn!! (I think he'll be our new mascot! :))
